Meet Rebecca (she/her)

I’ve always been comfortable talking about sex and relationships. I grew up in an environment where these conversations weren’t taboo, and I didn’t realize how rare that was until I got older. While many of my peers struggled with sexual shame, religious guilt, or fear, I had always felt empowered to ask questions and seek knowledge without judgment. Because of that, I naturally became the person others turned to for guidance on sex, relationships, and reproductive justice. ​My academic journey only deepened that passion. I hold two B.A.s, one in English and another in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology, and an M.A. in Adult Learning and Higher Education. Through my studies, I learned how deeply sex education is shaped by culture, systemic oppression, and access to information. I also trained in trauma-informed response and power-based personal violence, expanding my understanding of how systems of power impact sexual health, relationships, and bodily autonomy. In 2022, I began my certification with the Sexual Health Alliance to become a Certified Sex Educator, with a goal of completing it by 2025.​ I started Pride & Pleasure because I see a critical gap in my community—one that goes beyond abstinence-only or fear-based sex education. I believe sex education should be pleasure-centered, accessible, and liberating. I believe in decolonizing sex education, challenging the white, cisnormative, and patriarchal frameworks that have shaped it for too long. As an independent educator, I have the freedom to teach sex education in ways that schools, universities, and other institutions often can’t.​ At its core, Pride & Pleasure exists to help people feel seen, validated, and empowered in their sexual health and relationships. I’m not here to be the expert—I’m here to create a space for collective learning, to dismantle stigma, and to give people the tools they need to define their own experiences.
